“I do not only rely on my technique or strength but also on my mind.”

“If I, being a mother of two, can win a medal, so can you all. Take me as an example and don’t give up.”

“People used to say that boxing is for men and not for women and I thought I will show them someday. I promised myself and I proved myself.”

‘Women and Sports’ is not a commonly used phenomenon in India, this is due to male dominance, sex roles and lack of support from family members. Female participation in sports is increasing nowadays, but it’s not up to other countries.

Sports is a great tool in empowerment of women by making them confident, mentally and physically stable, increasing stamina and many more…the right awareness about sports education is to be promoted not only for girls but for their parents also. Mothers, you should be the ‘she for her’…stand up for her dreams, let her fly without limits.

In our country sports as a career is not even considered as an option especially for girls, sports with its limitless opportunities is a great field to achieve fame, earn money and respect. From Karnam Malleswari to P.V Sindhu, every single women athlete have fought against all odds in order to achieve their dream, and yet they proved themselves to be equally strong and talented as men. If every single girl child are properly nourished and trained in our country, we will be the nation with highest women athletes, we do have potential; all we need is some initiative to promote sports in girls from their childhood.

A little inspiration and support is all our girls need, let them play too. Sports has no demographic boundaries, it’s all about passion and hard work, gear up and go for it …you are going to reach where you want ‘you’ to reach!
