India in Asian Games

India with a total medal tally hit of 50 is still on the race, placed in eighth position at Asian Games 2018. While India is on board in Indonesia bagging medals let’s take a look back at India’s expedition from 1951, First Asian Games to 2018…

India have a prominent place in history of Asian Games as First Asian Games were hosted in Delhi, India in 1951. From the start itself, major Asian countries like China and Japan showed dominance over India and other countries, they are the top ranked countries till now.

In 1982, India was elevated to 5th rank with a total medal tally of 57, later in 1986, Seoul India again seized 5th rank but with lesser medal tally of 37. From 2006, Doha, Qatar; India appeared more active and it is marked as the beginning of good phase of India in Asian Games where India managed to win 53 medals and was placed in 8th rank.

In 2010, China; India with 65 medals jumped to 6th rank. Last Asiad in 2014 held in Incheon, South Korea India gave creditable performance by bagging 57medals. Although China and Japan being in the top rank, India always bring out its best except in 2010, India always ranked the top ten nations in medal table.

With all the ups and downs India still managed to be one of the seven countries to take part in every edition of Asian Games, with all hopes up…let India take a step ahead in the 18th edition of Asian Games.
